Your Best Friend – The Concierge

One of the keys to make your stay in a hotel and in a city more enjoyable is the hotel concierge. The Accredited Professional Concierge is a member of “Les Clefs d'Or” (Golden Keys), which is an international association of concierges.
A professional concierge will know the ins and outs of the hotel and your destination. They make it their profession to assist travelers and over time will have built a network and more importantly connections, in their city.

The obvious thing is to ask the concierge for information when you arrive at the hotel, but to create true value for you, you can and should contact him or her before you actually arrive. They will be able to get you information on who and what is happening in the city and if required make the appropriate arrangements for you.

Also, members of “Les Clefs d'Or” are a part of a large domestic and international network and can access resources for you in most destinations across the globe. I have known regular hotel guests to call our concierge and assist them in matters half a world away.

While larger or upscale hotels may have full time accredited concierges on staff between 7 am and 11 pm, this may represent a challenge in smaller hotels. However, more often than not you will be able to find other hotel employees that will be just as knowledgeable. Try the bell staff, front desk clerks, and your server in the restaurant or your room attendant on the guest room floors. All you need to do is ask!

So one of the key staff members that you want to get to know in hotels is the concierge.

I personally have made many “concierge” friends all over and some of them have become true friends and are part of our extended family.
