Many hotels are upgrading their fitness or lifestyle facilities to attract the corporate traveler and to increase their share in the growing leisure market. If these facilities influence your buying decision you should be aware of a few things.
In general leisure or fitness facilities are not profit centers for hotels and as a result often times actions are taken to reduce their operating costs. One such action is selling memberships to the public. If that is the case some hotels tend to forget that their core business is being a hotel and hotel guests might have difficulty finding available equipment in the gym during peak periods.

Another factor is the staffing level in these facilities. Depending on local regulations lifeguards may or may not be required in the pool area, the number of people allowed on the deck at a given time may be restricted and other limitations apply.

If you are looking for a corporate hotel and want to conduct business in the hotel, whether for private or even larger meetings and the hotel has water slides for example, chances are that during a peak leisure period you will encounter noise and other disruptions.

In reverse if you are looking for family activities, hotels that offer attractions like water slides and children programs a more likely cater to the needs for traveling families.

So before making your reservation do some research based on the type of stay that you would like to have. It takes a little extra time, but certainly will improve your experience. After all - any time you spend traveling, business or leisure, is YOUR time.
